ROSA® Knee Robotic Technology

As the region’s most preferred orthopedic practice, OAK Orthopedics is dedicated to providing the latest, proven options in bone, joint, and muscle care to help you redefine living. That’s why we are proud to be Kankakee County’s first providers for ROSA total knee replacement using robotic assistance.

What Is ROSA Robotic-Assisted Knee Replacement?

The ROSA Knee System brings together robotic technology with industry-leading knee implants to help surgeons personalize surgical procedures for their patients. Data provided by ROSA assists with complex decision-making before and during surgery. It also enables surgeons to use state-of-the-art computer and software technology to control and move surgical instruments, allowing for better precision and flexibility during surgery.

Performed at St. Mary’s Hospital by OAK Orthopedics’ ROSA-trained surgeons, total knee replacement using this system provides patients with the following benefits:

  • State-of-the-art implants, including gender-specific knee implants
  • Real-time data and navigation that help the surgeon optimize the procedure
  • A new knee that maximizes motion and maintains stability

Most patients with chronic knee pain from arthritis who no longer experience relief from nonsurgical treatment methods are good candidates for knee replacement using the ROSA Knee System. Your surgeon will be able to determine the best treatment path for you after a thorough assessment of your condition and history. Your surgeon will work with you to develop a full, personalized treatment plan, including pre- and postoperative exercises to strengthen your knee, so you can experience the best results.

What to Expect With a ROSA Knee Replacement

Once you’ve decided to move forward with a ROSA knee replacement procedure, your surgeon will use X-rays to create a three-dimensional model of your knee. Your surgeon will use this model, combined with the ROSA Knee System, to plan your surgery based on your specific needs and anatomy.

Like a traditional knee replacement, your procedure will involve your surgeon removing damaged portions of your knee structure and carefully positioning your implant components. However, the ROSA Knee procedure is based on a presurgical plan specific to your unique anatomy, and your surgeon will also guide robotic instrumentation with real-time data for accurate implant placement.

You’ll begin your recovery immediately following surgery, and you will be able to recover in the comfort of home as soon as you’re able to stand and walk with your new knee. Typically, patients are able to resume driving after two weeks and most activities after six to eight weeks. The ROSA system optimizes both short- and long-term outcomes. While our traditional joint replacement outcomes at OAK Orthopedics are also excellent for our patients, the ROSA technology gives our experts more specific information that they can use to fine-tune results.
