Doing their part to reduce the spread of COVID-19, OAK Orthopedics, a division of Illinois Bone & Joint Institute, now offers orthopedic telemedicine for patients with bone, joint and muscle concerns. Telemedicine appointments allow patients to interact with OAK Orthopedics’ providers via a secure video platform. OAK Orthopedics is also taking all necessary precautions at their Immediate Orthopedic Access clinics for same-day care for urgent orthopedic injuries, helping hospitals and emergency departments focus their resources on COVID-19 cases. Immediate Orthopedic Access is located in Bradley, at 400 S. Kennedy Drive, and in Frankfort, at 19552 S. Harlem Avenue — open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In the midst of COVID-19 and in an effort to protect their patients, OAK Orthopedics is still open to provide the following services:

  • Limited non-urgent appointment scheduling.
  • Emergency surgical procedures.
  • Immediate Orthopedic Access to accommodate patients’ urgent orthopedic care needs.
  • Telemedicine visits for appropriate physician and physical therapy needs.

“Our number one priority is to protect the health and well-being of our patients, staff and community,” says Dr. Michael Corcoran, fellowship-trained sports medicine surgeon at OAK Orthopedics. “Our goal is to limit individual contact where we can while providing the same high-quality services that you expect from OAK Orthopedics, and telemedicine will help us do that.”

Through telemedicine, the practice’s specialty-trained experts can provide their patients with follow-up care as well as complete an initial diagnosis for a majority of bone, joint and muscle injuries and conditions. Additionally, their telemedicine platform and protocols comply with federal health privacy laws and offer area residents accurate orthopedic care without risk of viral exposure to anyone.

If at the time of a telemedicine evaluation the clinical team determines that there is an urgent issue, patients may arrange an in-office visit for necessary testing or treatment, per the guidance of the treating provider.

“We’re closely following the CDC, Illinois Department of Public Health and national guidelines as we continue to provide exceptional, collaborative care in our clinics,” continues Dr. Corcoran. “Our team is being diligent in assessing this regional and national emergency as it unfolds, and we are proud to offer telemedicine as a helpful care solution for our community.”
